April 1, 2021

We have made it to April 1, and I don't know where the time has gone! The students have been really engaged in our Owl Research Project this past month. Yesterday, the students were able to examine Owl Pellets and had a really enjoyable afternoon! They were so engaged at looking at the various bones and trying to identify what animals their owl had eaten.

Your child will be coming home with his/her Owl Report today. They did a great job!

We have been working on understanding when to add or subtract in Math by looking at pictures or listening to word problems. As well as working on counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.

In Religion, during Lent, we have been learning about Jesus' passion and Stations of the Cross. Today we will be watching Mrs. Ackerman's Grade 2 class live stream the Holy Thursday Liturgy.

Have a blessed, healthy Easter Break.

November has begun with incredibly warm weather...let's hope that's a sign of things to come.

We are currently using Nursery Rhymes to help with our literacy skills (reading sight words, hearing rhyming words, and using decoding skills).

We are looking at numbers and and how to represent them in different ways (pictorally, concretely and numerically) as well as using different strategies like tallies and Ten Frames.

In Religion we are learning about people from the Bible who have listened and obeyed God. Currently we are studying about Noah.

Below are pictures of some of our work.

Please remember to access Raz-Kids. It's a great Reading Site that supports the children at all different levels of Reading. If you have lost your child's log-in information, please contact me and let me know and I can resend it to you.

 Happy October!

Hard to believe we have completed our First Month of School. The students are settling in well to new routines of School Life. Transitioning from an half day Kindergarten programme to a full day Grade 1 experience is tiring for many children. The children are also doing well learning how to keep themselves healthy by hand sanitizing frequently, wiping their desks, and using their mask. "Keep your space or cover your face" is our new mantra.

This month our focus has been mainly establishing routines and expectations. We are learning colour words, initial sounds, looking at patterns and working on building a sight vocabulary.

Enjoy the pictures of our learning.

Making patterns using our own counters.

Creating a colour wheel flower. We are learning the terms Primary Colours and Secondary Colours.
We are learning about Rules in School and how to be a good student.

Our Colour Poems. We have a book with all our poems coming home.
